Welterweight (147 pounds) star, Abdullai Amidu (18-0, 17 knockouts) of Ghana has been hired by seven-division champ, Manny Pacquaio (50-3-2, 38 KOs) to imitate his countryman, Joshua Clotey (35-3, 20 KOs), in sparring as Pacquaio prepares to defend his WBO welterweight title against Clotey (pictured at right).

Also serving as a Pacquaio sparring partner is David Rodela (14-2-2, six KOs). FanHouse caught up to both at The Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, which is owned and operated by Pacquaio’s trainer, Freddie Roach.

Victor Ortiz Wants Amir Khan, But Must Get by Nate Campbell

Filed under: WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, Golden Boy Promotions, Boxing Video, HBO, Showtime, FanHouse Exclusive, Victor Ortiz, IBO

Rising Southpaw junior welterweight (140 pounds) “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (pictured at right) was literally a big hit recently at the Club Nokia at LA Live in Los Angeles, scoring a 10th-round knockout over Hector Alatorre in the main event of a Golden Boy Promotions’ Fight Night Club show.

In victory, the 23-year-old Ortiz rose to 26-2-1, with 21 KOs, setting up a May 15 clash with 37-year-old former world champ, Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KOs) — this on the uncdercard of a main event featuring England’s 23-year-old, WBA junior welterweight king, Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KOs), in defense of his title against New York’s 29-year-old Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, five KOs) at The WaMu Theatre in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

FanHouse caught up to Ortiz that night, along with Godlen Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, boxing fans and Ortiz’s manager, Rolando Arellano, who told Khan, “We’re coming for your a**.”

Peterson Brothers, Anthony, Lamont, Have Big Fights Ahead

Filed under: WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, HBO, Showtime, IBO

Washington, D.C. lightweight (135 pounds) Anthony Peterson will face Puerto Rico’s Juan Ramon Cruz on March 12 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center in Grapevine, Tex., as part of a stacked card taking place the night before seven-division titlist, Manny Pacquaio defends his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) belt against Joshua Clottey at The Dallas Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Top Rank matchmaker, Carl Moretti, told FanHouse on Sunday.

If the 24-year-old Peterson (29-0, 19 knockouts) gets past the 31-year-old Cruz (16-7-1, 12 KOs), he will be in line to face the winner of a March 13, Pacquaio-Clotey undercard clash of former world champions between 29-year-old Humberto Soto (50-7-2, 32 KOs) of Tijuana, Mex., and 33-year-old David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KOs), of Chicago, for the WBC lightweight belt vacated by Edwin Valero (pictured at right, throwing punch).

The 28-year-old Valero (27-0, 27 KOs), coming off of a Feb. 6, 10th-round knockout of Antonio DeMarco (23-2-1, 17 KOs) of Mexico, is moving up to the junior welterweight (140 pounds) division to take on Antony’s 26-year-old brother, Lamont Peterson (27-1, 13 KOs) on a date to be determined — potentially on April 10 in Las Vegas.
