“What Mayweather

Mayweahter doesn’t understand is whether you got a good offense that makes a good defense.. The bottom line is who use their offense and defense first becomes the victorious. When it’s all said and done, offense don’t mean nothing if the defense is not there to offset what he does to you. Or what he tries to do to you. So it’s hand in hand. It’s who execute their ability first. What Floyd should have said – even though he can say what he wanna say because he’s grown and he’s rich – is that he’s gonna be the better man with the better defense and with the better offense. But to say a good offense beats a good defense or a good defense beats a better offense – and you’re lacking the other. Well, De La Hoya has both. You’re putting all your eggs on one thing. De La Hoya brings both things to the table.”

“A good bigger man always beats a good little man. Name one fight that Floyd – fortunately or unfortunately – where he’s had adversity. When did Floyd, with your knowledge, been backed up against the wall. Have had an eye swollen. Sitting in the corner and he’s looking and saying, man. I don’t remember Floyd being in that position.”

“We all know that Floyd is not a puncher. Has never been a puncher. I respect a puncher who has a chance any second of a fight. Than a flashy, quick handed fighter that has 40 plus minutes to survive. And a puncher has one crack.”

“Floyd’s never been in a position to say I’m losing this fight. I gotta win it. That’s the element of surprise. It’s a helluva thing to learn on the job training. Helluva thing to realize, I never been here before! That’s what makes great fighters. Let’s see if he’s great (on May 5). Let’s see if he’s great.”

“When the bigger man is bigger, taller, has longer arms, you take three BB shots to fit one bazooka in there. If Floyd doesn’t get the bigger man to respect him – that means he has to hurt the bigger man. Early. If that will work. But he has to at least hurt him early to understand, Hey, you comin’ in here recklessly, this is gonna happen. I don’t care who it is, if you know a guy can crack, I don’t care who it is, even me, you gonna think a split second, a quarter of a second, okay. When I go in there I have to go with my head tilted a little bit more. I gotta make sure he miss – and then hit. But you’re still thinking, right? It’s all you need to make a guy reset his mind and then he’ll reset his body. And then he resets what he’s gonna do. And with that much time you can do what you want to do. And just play that fiddle all the way till the fight is over.”

Current European heavyweight champion, Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski (45-2-1, 27KO) will have the opportunity to fulfill a life- long dream of becoming heavyweight champion of the world, when he takes on WBC heavyweight king, Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37KO) on May 29th at Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The 31-year-old Polish native Sosnowski is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing (USA), Keyspan Media (Poland) and Matchroom Sport (UK). Sosnowski is coming off dominating unanimous decision victory over Paolo Vidoz in December to pick up the vacant European heavyweight title. Sosnowski also holds an 8th round TKO victory over Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams, who Klitschko also defeated by 8th round TKO.

Sosnowski has quick hands for a heavyweight, and at 31 he is 7 years younger then the champion, something that could give Klitschko problems. Can Sosnowski pull off the upset? Only time will tell.

BoxingInsider.com’s columnist Philip H. Anselmo may be super busy running his House Core Records label and consulting strategic advice to certain prominent boxers but he talked a little boxing in his recent interview with ArtistDirect.com’s Rick Florino…

The rest of the interview can be read here: http://www.artistdirect.com/entertainment-news/article/interview-philip-anselmo-pantera-down-you-don-t-have-to-conform-to-what-everyone-else-is-doing-if-you-want-to-do-something-make-a-dent/6511688

Here are the boxing questions…

Are you looking forward to the Manny Pacquaio fight?

He should be fighting Floyd Mayweather

Mayweahter! Pacquaio is a man of two countries. He owns the Philipines, and he’s loved in America. He’s a very lovable, humble guy. Joe Calzaghe’s great! With the big super middleweight tournament they’ve got going now, he must be asking himself, “Where were these guys when I was around not but five years ago? I would’ve been part of this thing!” Joe fought through a lot of injuries in his career. He was avoided. Don’t get me wrong. In my book, Roy Jones Jr. is probably the most spectacular athletically gifted boxer that I’ve seen in my life. Truth being, Roy avoided Joe Calzaghe forever. When they fought about ten years too late, Roy floored Joe in the first round. Roy was there. He may not have been one-thousand percent Roy Jones Jr., but he was there. Also seeing him in the ring that night, Joe Calzaghe’s style would give anybody, including and in his prime Roy Jones Jr., fits. Joe was just a little bigger than Roy. That’s nothing Roy hadn’t faced before, but a big physical super middleweight at that weight 168lbs a south paw with that crazy fantastically beautifully gifted unorthodox unique style that just worked—I don’t know. I’d have to say Calzaghe’s the greatest super middle weight of all time. I don’t think anybody beats him.

That Shane Mosley and Margarito fight last year was a personal favorite…

What a great fight! I did a write-up for that fight for Boxing Insider. We’re about to see Shane fucking maybe take the thunder out of Mayweather

Mayweahter. That’s a great placement fight for the Pacquaio fight. Look at what Shane did to the “invincible” Margarito. It’s unbelievable. Mosley fought so smart in that fight—just textbook boxing. He didn’t give ground, didn’t cover up, didn’t back up, didn’t get in Margarito’s range—he smothered him. He stayed close to him when he had to and then lit him up! I knew he’d finish that fight with his signature, beautiful, compact left hook—goodnight! It was fantastic.

Washington, D.C.– Last Wednesday’s press conference at The Lincoln Theatre was intended to promote the May 1 welterweight (147 pounds) clash between unbeaten <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/search/Floyd+Mayweather

Mayweahter and WBA super champion, Shane Mosley slated for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But before the principles were introduced, one of the officials on stage pointed to Paul Williams, who was sitting in the crowd, and asked him to stand up.

And when the former two-time welterweight and one-time junior middleweight (154 pounds) did stand up, the more than 1,500 boxing fanatics who had packed the venue beyond its capacity were boisterous and roundly supportive in appreciation of his status and achievement.

A rangy fighter, with too-fisted power and a seemingly, endless energy reserve, Williams is known for unleashing an unheard of number of punches during his action-packed bouts.

“I’ve been coming to D.C. for like 12 years, and they’ve shown me a lot of love down here in D.C., that’s why I sort of ran back here,” said the 28-year-old Williams (38-1, 27 knockouts), a slender, nearly 6-foot-2, fighter who trains at the Barcroft Recreation Center in nearby Arlington, Va., frequents shows in Maryland, and supports local fighters in and around the Washington, D.C. area.

“Everybody says, ‘I know you’re originally from Carolina, but you’re really a D.C. boy,’” said Williams. “So I’m rolling with the home team.”

There’s a multitude of reasons why heavyweight boxing has become irrelevant in America. Of course with every failure, there’s plenty of blame to go around – a lack of top quality trainers, a poorly run amateur system, lack of media coverage of amateur boxing. Lennox Lewis’ early retirement before facing Vitali in a rematch, more than a few one-sided mismatches involving Wladimir and Vitali with inferior contenders who fought for survival, not to win the title, HBO’s poor promotion of the Klitschko Brothers. We can go on and on.

But now it appears there could be a partial solution to the big problem plaguing boxing. One of the mightiest names in boxing history is rumored to be itching to make a return to the ring. Mike Tyson at age 43 is said to be pondering giving it another go, like George Foreman did back in the 80s and 90s.

With all due respect to Eddie Chambers, Deontay Wilder, John Ruiz, Ray Austin, Tony Thompson, Chris Arreola, American heavyweight boxing is at or near an all-time low as far as popularity. A stimulus is desperately needed. Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield could provide that spark.

A Tyson comeback following the guidelines of George Foreman’s hugely successful run could not only work, it could possibly even exceed what Big George accomplished. And with Don King around, working in unison with Tyson, the show could be even more colorful and dynamic.

Don’t get me wrong, Tyson looked beyond shot against Kevin McBride and Danny Williams. It looked like his fire had burnt completely out. But if he’s matched carefully and patiently, against smaller opposition rather than those super-heavyweight behemoths, Tyson can rise from the ashes. After a couple of wins, the snowball effect, hey, you never know.

Though heavyweight boxing is thriving in Europe, it is in dire straits here in the U.S. Over 50,000 will attend Klitschko vs. Chambers later this month in Dusseldorf, but HBO opted not to even televise that world heavyweight title bout in America. Even if Chambers, the 8-1 underdog scores the upset of the decade, virtually no one in America will have witnessed it. In two weeks time Chambers could be the world heavyweight champion but thanks to HBO, he’d have the popularity presence of an NFL second string offensive lineman.

If that’s not a sign that desperate measures are needed by American heavyweight boxing, then what is?

The Return of Mike Tyson to the boxing ring? The new, rejuvenated Mike Tyson coming to a stadium near you. It’s not impossible to imagine starving boxing fans selling out Madison Square Garden or Yankee Stadium to see Mike Tyson, the most exciting heavyweight champion in history, try do his thing one more time. If this rumored comeback is done properly, it sounds pretty good to me. Hurry up Don. Make it happen.
